September 17, 2007 - Warning on Shady Phone Scam: 1-866-525-6407 For the last couple of weeks I have been receiving a strange call. It is an automated message that says "You have an important message, please call us at 1-866-525-6407 to retrieve your message". I am always questioning phone calls like this to begin with and would never give any information away over the phone. I Googled the number and found a few people have received the same call and have actually returned it. When they did call they got through to an operator who would not identify the company they work for or who they were. On top of that, they kept asking for personal information in order to remove you from their list. Others say that they claim to be a collection agency. Shady business regardless. I thought I would post this to warn others if they happen to receive this phone message. Don't call it back, report it to the cops or to PhoneBusters (www.phonebusters.com).
Here is the link I found: • 800Notes.com
Update: I called them back out of curiosity and sure enough they said they were Nordon Collection Agency. When I Googled Nordon they are a legitimate collection agency but their toll free number is different. I tried calling that number to verify if this was a scam but no one was around. I'll try back again another day.
